The Soyuz spacecraft used by European Space Agency Astronaut Tim Peake on his Principia mission has returned from an exciting journey through the Earth’s atmosphere. It is now embarking on a first-of-its-kind national tour, with the aim of inspiring a generation of people across the country.
The Science Museum Group and global technology innovators Samsung have joined forces to create The National Tour of Tim Peake’s Spacecraft and Space Descent VR. The Soyuz spacecraft will go on public display across the length and breadth of the British Isles, enhanced by Space Descent VR—a unique virtual reality adventure using Samsung Gear VR technology which places visitors right at the heart of Tim Peake’s journey from the International Space Station back to Earth.
From September 2017, the Soyuz will visit eight locations across the UK over two years, giving hundreds of thousands the chance to see this iconic object up close. Seven venues across the UK have been selected to host the tour so far, with one more space remaining. We are launching a public competition to find our final venue, who will have the opportunity to host The National Tour of Tim Peake’s Spacecraft and Space Descent VR for up to three months in autumn 2018.
