What makes this Facilities Manager role stand out from the rest?
For a start, you'd be working in one of London's most extraordinary buildings — a Grade I listed home of science where the pioneering scientist Michael Faraday discovered electromagnetic induction, where the world-famous Christmas Lectures were born, and where our team demonstrate amazing and inspiring science experiments - including fire and explosions - in our 200-year-old lecture theatre.
The Royal Institution is a museum, a charity, a busy events venue, and a working home for science : all under one magnificent roof.
No two days are ever the same as this role supports 220 talks and events a year, 68 staff, our valued leaseholders and tenants, and a 450-seat lecture theatre - complete with lantern and raiseable cupola.
We also have a laboratory that is host to young scientists of school age, an onsite café, a museum, and, following a recent retro-fit project, brand new air source heat pumps that keep the whole building running efficiently and sustainably.
We create and film the Christmas Lectures series watched by millions on the BBC over the festive period, host talks from leading scientists, run family fun days and holiday workshops, and welcome visitors who come to experience science at its most alive. It is, to put it plainly, a remarkable place to come to work.
The Role
You will oversee the management, maintenance and compliance of the building — covering all hard and soft services, security, front-of-house operations, and day-to-day liaison with our tenants. You will ensure the smooth and safe operation of the Ri's spaces: the museum, public areas, and tenant offices alike.
You will work closely with the Head of Property and Facilities, who will provide support and guidance as you find your feet in what is (won't pretend otherwise) a gloriously complex building with a lot going on.
More information on the role can be found here.
Deadline: 23rd March
