Stop, Look, Listen: A short guide to equitable collaborations with community partners, with a focus on co-production in science engagement.
This animation has been created by ASDC as a guide to help people working in science engagement navigate the journey of co-producing STEM engagement experiences with community partners.
The animations share learning outcomes from the network of science centres involved in the most recent phase of the 'Explore Your Universe' programme.
The full-length version of the animation has also been edited into mini sections, each one covering a specific message covered on the equity and inclusion journey:
- "Move at the speed of trust" (Adrienne Maree Brown, author, activist)
- Play to your strengths
- Get your plan together… together!
- Look at the balance of power
- Look back to move forwards
Reviews from science engagement practitioners across the sector:
"I love them! I particularly liked the last one - look back to move forward - it resonated deeply and I may well refer people to it as a quick intro to reflective practice. The full set is a great resource too, and I can totally see how science centres would be able to use the playlist with potential new community partners to communicate effectively the kind of partnership they are aspiring to. Brilliant to have these as a quick reference for people who don't have the time to get into the detail of the inclusion handbook too."
"I am so happy to see these resources made available for the whole sector. I think they will definitely be gamechangers!”
“I’ve just watched my way through them all (twice). I could see that they could be punctuated throughout a training course i.e. watch one and then discuss, inspirational ideas etc. Useful tools to create conversations.”
“I am really looking forward to sharing these with colleagues (academic colleagues who will also benefit, and students who will equally find them indispensable)… It’s great to see such impacts that reach far beyond the individual organisations involved.”
"I’m really delighted with how the entire project has turned out, and how Explore Your Universe continues to leave a legacy across the science engagement sector."
