Trustees are the volunteers who lead charities and decide how they are run. Only 8% of charity trustees are people of colour (vs 14% of the wider population) and only 2.9% of trustees are women of colour. This lack of representation of people of colour at the most senior level of UK charity leadership is damaging to charities, and excludes individuals from being able to contribute their talents and experience to tackling critical social and environmental issues.
ASDC is joining other organisations in taking practical action on this issue by making a donation towards a place for an aspiring trustee of colour to join Getting on Board's online course for aspiring trustees, the Charity Board Leadership Programme.
About the course
The course will help people find a trustee role and learn about how to be an effective trustee. The programme is specifically for people who haven't been a trustee before, and you don't need to be a particular age or have a particular skillset to apply.
