ASDC Space Community Call: ADR Mission & Defending the Dark Skies

Science and discovery centres across the UK are sharing news of the exciting national competition to name the UK Space Agency’s Active Debris Removal (ADR) mission.
Join us online for our space engagement community call that will focus on ideas, information, resources and demos that support your engagement with school children and families around the growing challenge of crowded activity in Earth's orbit.
We will be joined by two speakers: Ray Fielding, Mission Director for National ADR at the UK Space Agency and Rob Massey, Deputy Executive Director at the Royal Astronomical Society. They will discuss the increasing number of satellites, increasing amount of space debris, the role that ADR technologies might play in ensuring the long-term sustainability of space operations and the concerns for the future of ground-based astronomy and the world’s view of the night sky.
We will also share an activity pack themed on the ADR mission, which is officially launching on 10th November.

Our Space Community Calls aim to equip our public engagement community with up-to-date, exciting space science content to share with their audiences. The attendees are a mix of science communicators and enthusiasts who come from a broad mix of organisations including science centres, museums, outreach organisations, community groups, and astronomy and planetarium societies, as well as researchers, PHD students and STEM ambassadors. All attendees share the same goal: to inspire and engage audiences with STEM in fun and diverse ways.
After a successful series of Space Community Calls from January 2024 - March 2026, this event is one of two additional events. The second will take place early 2027, so subscribe to our newsletter for updates.
